Lenin Peak and the other selected summits focus on Kyrgyzstan's far southern highland landscape. These mountains belong to a different regional setting from the ranges around Issyk-Kul, within a country whose relief is dominated by uplands and the valleys between them.

The southern frontier around Lenin Peak belongs to the Pamir mountain setting, whereas much of Kyrgyzstan lies within the Tien Shan. That distinction gives this selection a clear regional identity, with major valleys separating high ranges rather than a uniform plateau landscape.
