Discover Samoa
The selected mountains sit within Samoa's volcanic island landscape, where narrow coastal plains give way to rugged interiors. Their setting belongs to the high islands of the central Pacific, rather than the lower coral and atoll environments found elsewhere in the ocean.
The three locations lie on Savai‘i, Samoa's larger island, rather than on neighbouring Upolu. Savai‘i's volcanic interior rises behind a lower coastal belt, with uplands occupying much of the island's centre. This gives the grouping a single-island identity within an archipelago whose high ground is divided by stretches of ocean.
