The selected high points lie in Mashonaland's elevated landscape rather than the more pronounced Eastern Highlands. They provide a northern regional focus within Zimbabwe's plateau country, where hills interrupt a broadly raised and rolling surface.
Mashonaland's hills rise within the plateau country around and beyond Harare. The selected landmarks lie apart from the Nyanga and Chimanimani mountains of the Eastern Highlands. Local rocky elevations and intervening rolling land give this northern grouping its identity, with more modest relief than the country's eastern border ranges.
