Three Peaks in Africa
Discover African mountain journeys across the Atlas, eastern highlands and southern coastal ranges, with distinctive settings on the mainland and offshore islands.
Mountain landscapes across Africa
Africa’s relief includes high plateaus, isolated volcanic mountains and coastal ranges as well as its better known deserts and plains. The Atlas provides a northern mountain setting in Morocco; farther east, highland and volcanic landscapes rise above surrounding regions. In the south, Cape Town’s mountains sit directly beside a major coastal city, giving that grouping a markedly different geographical context.
Island destinations add another dimension to the continent’s mountain choices. Their summits may occupy a much smaller land area than a mainland range, although proximity on a map says little about the journey between them. Compare the country pages and open each summit map to understand the setting. The High Atlas and Cape Town selections are useful starting points for exploring the breadth of African Three Peaks ideas.
