Three Peaks challenges in Myanmar

Myanmar's central lowlands are ringed by steep highlands, with much higher mountains in the north. Its regional geography is varied, and any mountain journey depends on a clearly chosen area and appropriate arrangements.

The landscapes of Myanmar

Myanmar's central lowlands are surrounded by steep uplands, with much higher mountain country in the far north. The Ayeyarwady runs through the country's interior and provides a strong geographical contrast to the ranges on either side.

The Shan Plateau occupies eastern Myanmar, while the Chin Hills and Rakhine ranges lie west of the central basin. Farther north, the mountains approach the eastern Himalayan region. The Ayeyarwady valley separates major upland areas, giving the country a clear contrast between its central river corridor and the surrounding elevated margins.
