Three Peaks challenges in Pakistan
Pakistan's northern highlands contrast with the Indus plain and Balochistan Plateau. Its mountain geography spans very different scales, from lower hill country to expedition terrain in the highest northern ranges.
The landscapes of Pakistan
Pakistan's northern highlands contrast with the Indus plain and the Balochistan Plateau. The far north contains several immense mountain systems, while lower hill regions elsewhere have different relationships with the country's valleys, plains and settlements.
The Karakoram contains K2 and lies east of much of the Hindu Kush, while the western Himalaya occupies another northern mountain setting. Deep valleys divide these systems and connect them with the Indus basin. Balochistan's uplands lie far to the southwest, giving Pakistan another mountain landscape beyond its celebrated northern ranges.
