Three Peaks challenges in Vietnam
Vietnam's northern and northwestern mountains contrast with the country's low river deltas and central uplands. The far northern high ground provides a distinct landscape setting within a long, climatically varied country.
The landscapes of Vietnam
Vietnam's northern and southern deltas are low and flat, while central highlands and the mountains of the far north create very different inland settings. The northwestern uplands are particularly distinct from the long coastal lowlands and the broad river mouths at either end of the country.
The south has a tropical climate, while northern conditions are strongly monsoonal, with wetter and drier parts of the year. Geography changes over Vietnam's considerable north–south length. A northern mountain destination consequently belongs to a different landscape and seasonal setting from the southern delta.
