Discover Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes
Sancy, the Puy de Dôme and Puy Mary occupy different volcanic areas of the Massif Central. This group therefore introduces several landscapes within Auvergne rather than a single ridge, distinct from the Alpine and Pyrenean ranges elsewhere in France.
Auvergne lies within France's interior highlands, apart from both the Mediterranean coast and the high border ranges. The three volcanic landmarks belong to different parts of the Massif Central, making the surrounding plateaus and intervening country an essential part of their regional relationship.
