Three Peaks in Europe

From Britain’s uplands to the Alps and Mediterranean ranges, explore European Three Peaks journeys shaped by very different mountain landscapes.

Mountain landscapes across Europe

Europe offers several very different mountain settings within a relatively compact continent. The Scottish Highlands and Scandinavian uplands belong to its ancient northern landscapes, while the Alps, Pyrenees and Carpathians form prominent ranges farther south and east. Between them lie wooded uplands and broad lowlands. Choosing a country is a useful first step, but choosing the particular range makes the journey much more specific.

The National Three Peaks brings Scotland, England and Wales together; Yorkshire and Surrey concentrate on smaller areas. Continental selections have their own geographical character, from an alpine valley to a Mediterranean island. Use the individual summit maps to see whether the three places cluster in one region or sit farther apart. A shared challenge name does not mean that these landscapes call for the same kind of trip.
