The selected summits occupy different parts of Slovenia's northwestern Alpine landscape. Their setting is distinct from the country's eastern valleys and southwestern karst coast, with separate ridges and valleys dividing these prominent mountain landmarks across the Julian Alps.
Triglav stands in the central Julian Alps, Krn belongs to the mountain country above the Soča basin, and Mangart occupies the northern border region. Their limestone relief shares a broad Alpine identity, but each mountain sits among different valleys. The grouping therefore explores several parts of Slovenia's northwest rather than one summit massif.
