Belize's higher country is concentrated in the south, where the Maya Mountains rise inland from the coastal lowlands. Victoria Peak, Doyle's Delight and The Molar focus on that interior, whose relief differs markedly from the country's flatter Caribbean-facing plains.
Belize faces the Caribbean alone, without the Pacific coastline found in most neighbouring Central American countries. Its interior mountains sit within a hot, humid tropical setting, with rainfall more strongly seasonal than temperature. The transition inland from the coastal plain is the defining change in relief.
