Mountain landscapes across North America
North America spans large continental mountain systems and much smaller island landscapes. Western ranges contrast with the older uplands of the east, while Mexico and Central America introduce prominent volcanic settings. Across the Caribbean, the geography shifts again between mountainous islands and much lower terrain. Country and state boundaries are helpful ways to browse, but the summit locations show the scale of each particular selection.
The United States directory contains all fifty states, including those better described through hills and highpoints than alpine mountains. These pages do not pretend that every state offers the same landscape. Explore a state’s regional character and its three named places, or look farther afield to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. The maps make the geographical spread visible before you discuss the kind of experience that would suit your group.
