Discover Francisco Morazan Department
Honduras is predominantly mountainous inland, with narrower lower plains along parts of its coast. The selected elevations focus on the central interior rather than the Caribbean lowlands, within a landscape where ridges and valleys define much of the country's physical character.
The central uplands sit between Honduras's long Caribbean frontage and its much shorter Pacific coast on the Gulf of Fonseca. Elevation moderates the tropical lowland climate, and the repeated ridges and intervening basins give the interior its distinctive broken terrain.
