Three Peaks challenges in Palau
Palau combines a higher main island with lower coral islands and reef systems. Its landscape is varied, but the scale of its uplands differs from the major mountain ranges elsewhere in the Pacific.
The landscapes of Palau
Palau combines higher islands with low coral settings and extensive reefs. Babeldaob contains the country's principal uplands, while other islands and lagoons belong to a more distinctly maritime landscape. This gives the archipelago variety without creating a major alpine mountain destination.
Babeldaob's volcanic uplands include Mount Ngerchelchuus, while the Rock Islands farther south have distinctive limestone forms. Low coral islands add another setting elsewhere in Palau. The archipelago therefore combines several kinds of island relief, but its mountain scale remains modest compared with the larger volcanic and continental ranges around the Pacific.
