Three Peaks challenges in Tuvalu
Tuvalu's narrow coral atolls sit only a little above the surrounding Pacific. Its geography is one of lagoons, ocean and low islands, without the mountain relief needed for a conventional Three Peaks itinerary.
The landscapes of Tuvalu
Tuvalu's narrow coral islands enclose or border lagoons within the central Pacific. The land is very low, with no inland mountain system or deep upland valleys. Differences between islands concern their lagoon and coastal shapes rather than substantial changes in elevation.
Easterly trade winds influence much of the year, while wetter weather and westerly winds occur in another broad seasonal period. The surrounding ocean is fundamental to the landscape. Tuvalu is therefore an island and lagoon destination, with a geographical character distinct from the higher volcanic archipelagos elsewhere in the Pacific.
