Three Peaks challenges in Bolivia
Bolivia spans the high Andes and Altiplano before descending toward the Amazon Basin. Its mountain landscapes vary from exposed plateau country to steep ranges and the warmer hills along their eastern margins.
The landscapes of Bolivia
The Altiplano is already high country before the surrounding mountains rise above it. Sajama belongs to this western Andean setting, while the eastern slopes descend towards much warmer lowlands. These changes in altitude give Bolivia several distinct mountain landscapes, so a plateau-based journey and one exploring the eastern foothills would offer markedly different experiences of the country.
