Three Peaks challenges in Chad
Chad spans southern lowlands, broad arid plains and northern desert. Its northwestern mountains form a substantial contrast to the flatter country, with the Tibesti landscape representing a separate desert mountain world.
The landscapes of Chad
The northern mountains belong to the Sahara, far from the southern lowlands and the Lake Chad basin. Emi Koussi is a major volcanic landmark within this desert high country. The scale of the intervening territory means that a northern mountain enquiry is a distinct undertaking, with a very different landscape from a journey centred on Chad’s southern regions.
