Three Peaks challenges in Ethiopia
Ethiopia's high plateau is divided by the Great Rift Valley. Mountain groups rise from this elevated landscape, while sharp changes in altitude create very different conditions between neighbouring regions.
The landscapes of Ethiopia
The high plateau is not a single level surface: ranges and deep valleys create substantial differences within it. Ras Dejen belongs to the northern mountain country, while the Rift Valley separates other highland regions. Selecting a particular range gives an enquiry a useful focus, with the wider Ethiopian landscape providing a striking contrast between elevated ground and lower basins.
