Three Peaks challenges in Liberia
Liberia's Atlantic shoreline includes lagoons and mangrove country, with higher land inland. The transition through wooded hills toward an interior plateau provides its main geographical contrast for a landscape journey.
The landscapes of Liberia
Liberia's Atlantic shoreline is edged by low coastal country, lagoons and mangrove landscapes. Inland, the terrain rises through rolling hills towards plateaux and low mountains, creating a gradual but meaningful change in the country's geographical character.
Mount Wuteve lies in northern Liberia, while the Nimba highlands occupy a separate northeastern border setting. Between the coastal belt and those uplands, rolling interior country makes the rise in elevation gradual in many places. Liberia's mountain landmarks are therefore embedded in a wider landscape of forested hills, plateaux and river valleys.
