Three Peaks challenges in Senegal
Senegal is mostly low and gently rolling, with foothills toward the southeast. Its landscape changes are subtle compared with alpine destinations, and regional interest comes from the transition between coast, plains and inland uplands.
The landscapes of Senegal
Senegal's low, gently rolling plains rise towards foothills in the southeast. The Atlantic coast and lower inland country occupy much more of the territory than the higher ground, so the southeastern landscape provides a local change in relief rather than a major alpine mountain region.
Rainfall and winds change seasonally, with a wetter period followed by drier conditions influenced by the harmattan. These patterns sit across a predominantly low landscape. Senegal's geographical variety is best understood through the transition from coast to plains and inland foothills, rather than through a set of very high summits.
