Three Peaks challenges in Togo
Togo runs from a lagoon-fringed coast through plateaus and central hills toward northern savanna. Its uplands provide a contrasting landscape within a narrow country spanning several different geographical zones.
The landscapes of Togo
Togo's narrow territory crosses several physical zones. A low coastal plain contains lagoons and marshes, followed inland by a southern plateau and central hills. Farther north, gently rolling savanna becomes the dominant landscape, creating a clear progression away from the Atlantic shore.
The south is generally hot and humid, while northern conditions become more semiarid. The central uplands sit between these contrasting regions rather than occupying the whole country. Their geographical role is part of a north–south sequence of coast, plateau, hills and savanna within a compact West African setting.
