Three Peaks challenges in Lebanon
Lebanon's mountains rise close to the Mediterranean and enclose the Bekaa Valley. This compact arrangement creates pronounced changes in landscape between the coast, inland valley and eastern mountain country.
The landscapes of Lebanon
Lebanon's mountain geography is unusually compact. A narrow Mediterranean coastal plain rises towards the Lebanon Mountains, while the Bekaa Valley separates them from the Anti-Lebanon range farther east. Coast, high ground and an enclosed inland valley sit in close relationship.
Qornet es Saouda belongs to the northern Lebanon Mountains, west of the Bekaa. Across the valley, the Anti-Lebanon follows the border region with Syria. This arrangement makes Lebanon's mountain geography easy to recognise on a map: two upland systems, an intervening agricultural valley and the Mediterranean coast along the western edge.
