Three Peaks challenges in Belgium
Belgium's relief increases from the coastal plain toward the wooded southeast. The Ardennes and eastern uplands provide a contrasting landscape to the lower, more gently rolling country farther north and west.
The landscapes of Belgium
Belgium’s southeast provides the most pronounced upland setting, while the highest ground lies around Botrange in the east. These are landscapes of plateaus, wooded slopes and valleys rather than Alpine summits. The difference from the northwestern coastal plain is substantial, making the eastern uplands a more coherent focus for a hill-country enquiry than the country as a whole.
