Three Peaks challenges in Germany
Germany rises from northern lowlands through central uplands to the Bavarian Alps. Southern mountain destinations therefore occupy a very different setting from the wooded hills and lower landscapes farther north.
The landscapes of Germany
The Bavarian Alps contain Germany’s highest mountain, Zugspitze, but the central uplands offer a separate set of hill-country destinations. These regions differ from each other as much as they differ from the northern plain. A three-peak enquiry can therefore focus on Alpine summits or a lower mountain area, with the choice determining the landscape and scale of the journey.
