Three Peaks challenges in Latvia
Latvia is largely composed of low plains, with hillier landscapes toward the east. Its Baltic setting favours journeys through modest uplands and varied lowland scenery rather than a classic alpine challenge.
The landscapes of Latvia
Latvia's Baltic landscape is mainly low lying, with modest uplands and hills providing local changes in relief. Its mountain browsing should be understood at that gentler scale, among plains, woodland and inland countryside rather than alpine ranges.
Gaiziņkalns belongs to the Vidzeme uplands, while the Latgale uplands occupy a separate eastern lake district. Western Kurzeme has its own modest hills beyond the central lowlands. The scale remains gentle throughout: these are regional rises within a Baltic landscape, with woodland, lakes and valleys giving individual highpoints their context.
