Three Peaks challenges in Malta
Malta's principal islands are Malta, Gozo and Comino, set in the central Mediterranean. Coastal indentations, low uplands and limestone landscapes define the destination rather than a group of major mountain summits.
The landscapes of Malta
Malta's principal islands occupy a limestone landscape in the central Mediterranean. Low uplands, rocky ground and coastal cliffs provide the relief, while bays and inlets give the shoreline much of its shape. This is island hill country rather than a destination of major mountain summits.
Dingli's uplands meet the sea along Malta's southwestern cliffs, while Gozo has its own low hills and coastal escarpments. Comino occupies a much smaller island setting between them. The islands' limestone foundations are expressed through plateaux and cliff edges, so the principal contrasts concern landform and coastline rather than mountain height.
