Galdhøpiggen and the other selected summits belong to Norway's southern inland mountain landscape. This setting differs from the fjord-cut coast and the far northern tundra, with high plateaus, ridges and valleys creating a distinct regional upland character.
Glacial erosion has shaped the high plateaus, valleys and ridges of inland Norway. Galdhøpiggen anchors the Jotunheimen part of this selection, while the northern Styggehøbrea summit is a specifically named objective; the surrounding mountain landscape differs markedly from the deeply indented western coast.

Nørdre Styggehøbreatinden is the northern summit of the Styggehøbrea group in Jotunheimen. It is a separate mapped highpoint from the southeastern and southwestern summits.
