The selected summits belong to Sweden's far northern uplands, with a different setting from the gentler southern lowlands. Latitude as well as relief shapes this landscape, which sits within the country's subarctic north rather than its more temperate southern regions.
These locations occupy northern Lapland, where mountain groups and upland basins extend towards the Norwegian border. The region includes a transition between the Scandinavian mountain belt and lower inland country. Its geographical identity combines northern latitude with varied relief, rather than simply reproducing the wooded hill landscapes found farther south in Sweden.
