Three Peaks challenges in Jamaica
Jamaica's mountains occupy much of the island behind a narrow coastal fringe. The eastern highlands provide a distinct inland landscape, with conditions different from the warmer, more humid coastal country.
The landscapes of Jamaica
Jamaica's mountains rise behind a relatively narrow coastal fringe, giving much of the island a strongly upland character. The eastern highlands form a particularly recognisable setting, separate from the warmer coastal plains and the landscapes farther west.
The Blue Mountains occupy eastern Jamaica, alongside the separate John Crow Mountains towards the island's northeastern end. Farther west, the limestone terrain of Cockpit Country presents a different kind of rugged relief. Those regional contrasts distinguish high ridges from an intricate landscape of rounded hills and enclosed depressions within the island.
