Three Peaks challenges in Mexico

Mexico includes high plateaus, mountain systems and coastal lowlands across a broad tropical and subtropical span. Its volcanic landscapes are distinctive, but individual summit objectives need separate consideration from the surrounding region.

The landscapes of Mexico

Mexico's mountain geography spans high plateaux, major ranges and volcanic country between lower coastal regions. The central volcanic landscapes are distinct from the northern deserts and mountain systems, while the southern uplands add further regional variety.

The Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt crosses central Mexico, with Pico de Orizaba towards its eastern end. The Sierra Madre Occidental and Sierra Madre Oriental frame a much larger northern plateau region. Farther south, separate ranges continue towards Central America, creating mountain landscapes whose climate and surroundings differ substantially from the central volcanic highlands.
