Discover Connecticut

Connecticut's mountain scenery comes in several forms, from the wooded northwest uplands to the distinctive traprock ridges of the central and southern state. Bear Mountain, Talcott Mountain and Sleeping Giant capture that variety. They form a cross-state selection showing the contrasts between the rural northwest and the more settled landscapes around the Connecticut River and Hamden.

Bear Mountain lies near the Massachusetts border in the state's northwest corner. Talcott rises beside the Connecticut River valley, while Sleeping Giant's Mount Carmel summit belongs to the ridge outside Hamden. The different settings give each stop its own identity: rural border hills, a central valley skyline and a recognisable southern landform close to the coast's urban corridor.
