Discover Florida
Florida's highest ground is understated, with sandy uplands and low hills taking the place of mountain ranges. Britton Hill, Sugarloaf Mountain and Iron Mountain illustrate three parts of that landscape. The names can sound alpine, but the geographical character is firmly that of gentle southern hills and broad surrounding lowlands.
Britton Hill lies in the Panhandle near the Alabama border, while Sugarloaf and Iron Mountain belong to central Florida. This makes the selection a statewide journey rather than a compact local circuit. An enquiry can be centred on Florida's less familiar upland scenery, combining the different regions at a suitable pace instead of presenting these widely separated places as a single mountain walk.
