Discover Iowa

Iowa's high ground tells a story of prairie, glacial landforms and broad agricultural horizons. Hawkeye Point, Ocheyedan Mound and Pilot Knob are individual landmarks within that landscape, rather than members of a mountain range. Their interest comes from the way small changes in elevation stand out in relatively open country.

Hawkeye Point and Ocheyedan Mound belong to northwestern Iowa, while the selected Pilot Knob lies farther east near Forest City. Together they make a northern Iowa enquiry with distinct regional stops. This is a hill and highpoint journey whose character depends on the surrounding countryside, not a promise of dramatic mountain relief or an established three summit walking circuit.
