Discover Minnesota
Minnesota's North Shore brings together rocky uplands, northern forest and the vast presence of Lake Superior. Eagle Mountain, Moose Mountain and Carlton Peak sit within this northeastern part of the state, giving the enquiry a coherent regional setting. Their modest elevations belong to a very different mountain landscape from the western Rockies.
Eagle Mountain lies inland and supplies the state highpoint connection. The selected Moose Mountain is the North Shore summit near Lutsen, while Carlton Peak belongs to the country around Tofte. These positions create a journey along and behind the lakeshore, with the contrasts between inland forest and the Superior shoreline providing much of its identity beyond the three named summits.
