Discover Missouri
The St Francois Mountains give southeastern Missouri a landscape of ancient rocky uplands and forest, distinct from the broad plains elsewhere in the region. Taum Sauk, Bell Mountain and Hughes Mountain form a selection rooted in that setting. Each contributes a different named landmark within the same broad mountain country.
Taum Sauk brings the state highpoint connection, Bell Mountain sits farther west, and Hughes Mountain lies to the north of the central group. Their distribution makes this a regional enquiry rather than one continuous crest walk. The appeal is the variety of wooded slopes and exposed rock across the St Francois landscape, with several individual destinations shaping a broader Missouri mountain journey.
