Discover New Jersey
Northern New Jersey's uplands combine the Kittatinny Ridge with the wooded country close to the New York boundary. High Point, Sunrise Mountain and Wawayanda Mountain offer three named anchors within that region. The scenery is Appalachian in character, even though it lies much closer to the northeastern cities than many better-known mountain destinations.
High Point and Sunrise Mountain belong to the Kittatinny side of the selection, while Wawayanda broadens the enquiry eastwards into a different upland setting. Their positions suggest a journey through northern New Jersey's ridge and lake country rather than a single connected summit walk. The variety of local landscapes matters more here than the relatively modest differences between the elevations of the three locations.
