Discover New York

New York's Adirondack High Peaks offer a substantial mountain landscape far from the state's better-known urban setting. Mount Marcy, Algonquin Peak and Giant Mountain all belong to this northeastern mountain region. Their grouping is geographically coherent while still showing different parts of the Adirondacks' forest, lake and summit country.

Marcy and Algonquin sit within the central High Peaks landscape, with Giant farther east above the Keene Valley side of the region. The enquiry can therefore remain focused on the Adirondacks rather than combining them with the distant Catskills or other New York uplands. The surrounding valleys and mountain communities give context to the three summits, which remain individual objectives rather than an assumed linked itinerary.
