Discover North Carolina
North Carolina's Blue Ridge country contains several distinct mountain groups within a relatively close regional setting. Mount Mitchell and Mount Craig form a neighbouring pair in the Black Mountains, while Calloway Peak represents the Grandfather Mountain massif farther northeast. The selection combines a close summit relationship with a contrasting second mountain landscape.
Calloway is the highest of Grandfather Mountain's summits, with a setting distinct from the Black Mountains. Mitchell supplies the state highpoint connection, with Craig immediately beside its broader mountain setting. Together the three names support an enquiry about the variety of western North Carolina's high country, from the Black Mountains to Grandfather, without presenting those separate groups as one uninterrupted walking route.
