Discover West Virginia
West Virginia's highlands are defined by wooded mountain country, broad ridges and the Allegheny landscape. Spruce Knob, Bickle Knob and Gaudineer Knob provide three distinct summit points within that setting. The group sits within the eastern highlands, where individual summit settings are connected by a much wider expanse of woodland and mountain valleys.
Spruce Knob supplies the state highpoint connection, with Bickle Knob farther north near Elkins and Gaudineer Knob to the southwest. Their distribution gives the journey a coherent eastern West Virginia identity while leaving room for the valleys and forested country between them. Elkins and the communities of the higher Allegheny country provide the wider regional context, with each summit occupying its own place in the surrounding forest landscape.
