The landscapes of Ivory Coast
Côte d'Ivoire is largely a landscape of plains and gently rolling country, with more pronounced uplands towards the west and northwest. Those mountains provide a contrasting setting to the sandy coastal margin and the lower interior regions.
The western highlands rise towards Guinea and Liberia, with Mount Nimba situated in that shared border region. Farther east and south, the country's relief is generally much gentler. The contrast between these western mountains, the interior plains and the Gulf of Guinea coast gives Côte d'Ivoire its broad geographical shape.
