Three Peaks challenges in North Macedonia
North Macedonia's mountains surround deep valleys, basins and large border lakes. The Vardar corridor divides the country, while high ground along its western edge creates a contrasting mountain setting.
The landscapes of North Macedonia
North Macedonia's mountains surround deep valleys, inland basins and large lakes along its borders. The Vardar corridor cuts through the country, creating a clear contrast with the high ground to the west and other upland regions.
Korab rises on the western border with Albania, while the Šar Mountains occupy the northwest. Farther south, the ranges around Ohrid and Prespa have a distinct lake-basin setting. The Vardar valley forms another major geographical corridor, separating and connecting different upland regions across the country rather than following a single mountain ridge.
